I want to give Seth, the main character, a hug.
No one should have to go through what he does, yet so many people do - instability, loss, grief, physical pain, emotional pain, yet Seth hopes and perseveres. He keeps going no matter the situation, he's tough and gritty.
Gritty describes this great read for teens and especially fans of the City of Destiny, or as others call it - the gritty city - Tacoma.
I do want to know/feel more of what Seth was feeling during a few of the scenes, yet it will be fun to scout out the Tacoma haunts that were mentioned and hinted about that I haven't had the pleasure of visiting yet.
